Symptoms of depression

One or several of the symptoms listed below is usually present in depression.

The severity and constancy of the symptoms make the illness diagnosable as depression.

Often other people recognize depression before the person suffering.

• Constant tiredness
  
• Wanting to be in bed for long periods
  
• Long periods of sleep or poor sleeping
  
• Early morning wakening
  
• Feeling worse in the mornings
  
• Over-eating
  
• Loss of appetite
  
• Frequent weeping
  
• Anxiety and restlessness
  
• Lack of interest in things and people
  
• Lack of interest in sex
  
• Loss of self-esteem and self-worth
  
• Becoming isolated from others
  
• Feelings and thoughts of suicide
  
• Worries that you are going mad
